In 2003 Brisbane Grammar School opened its Middle School for Year 6 and 7 students. The state-of-the-art middle school building opened its doors to the 200 newly enrolled students on 28th January 2003. In 2004 the second phase of the Middle School was completed, with Year 8 joining the Year 6 and 7's and becoming a part of the Middle School experience.

The BGS Middle School is very much a school within a school. While being able to take advantage of the facilities and resources of the Secondary School, the Middle School provides a separate, purpose built facility for Years 6, 7 and 8. The design of the 3-storey building not only provides a wonderful space for teaching and learning young adolescents it also complements the existing building and landscaping features.

The new building has been designed as ‘pods’ of roomy, paired classrooms, each containing 25 students. Importantly, the classrooms not only support good learning they also provide for collaborative teacher preparation to encourage dialogue between the two teachers that share that pod concerning the boys and the curriculum.
